A New Way to shop - My Checker Box

A new, growing and popular concept retailing has recently arrived in Hong . My Checker Box, located just a block away from Elizabeth House in Causeway Bay, provides a shopping thrill similar to browsing capsule toys.
My Checker Box’s ground floor location, rare for this sort of shop, is a more larger one which nearly 2ooo sq. feet . Instead of a single owner, compartment shops typically rent out small cases of varying sizes to potentially over 100 different want-to-be retailers. The interior of the store includes modifiable compartments so that renters can create a tailored fit for their inventory. It’s up to the individual tenant what kind of merchandise they’d like to sell in their box.
The space is well lit, and features an interesting design both inside and outside the shop. Part of what makes the place attractive is that the items for sale (in clear plastic cases,) become part of the design.
With the right positioning, each compartment is a tiny universe unto itself. The experience of browsing the unique displays is reminiscent of glancing over toys sold in plastic bubbles.
There was a strong mix of products, from rare, limited-edition sneakers to eyeglass frames and designer items from celebrities.
I like these shops because they give people an opportunity to dabble in the basics of creating a product and running a store. Facing Hong Kong’s exorbitant rents, it also provides a way for small designers to showcase their work without needing a huge initial investment or commitment to opening their own shop.
My Checker Box offers different rents depending on the size and location of the space within the store. It’s a very interesting concept, taken to a higher level than previous shops I’ve seen. However, factors that may influence their success include whether they can get good foot traffic and attract the right kind of browsers.

Diesel Japan X Weathercast

Recently, Diesel Japan an interesting advertising campaign going on right now called Diesel X Weathercast. The ads are in the style of a television weather report. They have several videos on their website with fake extreme weather reports from various locations – including strange imagery and sounds. The weather reporters in the video are wearing clothing from the Diesel fall collection. Two of the slogans from the campaign are “Amazing Crush Denim by Tornado” and “Wear Diesel No Matter What the Weather Is!”

One of the cool things about the campaign is that they offer a blog widget, which you can use on your blog to show the actual time and daily weather report for whatever part of Japan in which you are located. Here is the Diesel blog widget – advertising mixed with a weather report for Tokyo.
Here are some pics of its tv ads:

Initial F/W 2009 Presentation

I've went to the initial collection presentation on the early september.
The exhibition held in the industrial area in Kwun Tong.

The theme of the lastest collection is - The Noble Pauper.
The presentation was specially designed. There were rooms decorated with furnitures, revealing the mood/ the theme of the collection.

The picture with donkey was taken in one of the room.

These were
the pictures from the other rooms.
Each room had a theme and all of them matched the collection.

The F/W 2009 collection was placed on the stage.
(shown here)
Indeed the collection presentation held a few days,
there was a fashion show in the first day. Models were wearing the lastest collection and presenting on this stage. Medias were invited to report.
Video had been recorded and projecting in the room for visitors who missed the fashion show.

Products like scarves, shirts, bags were exclusively sold in there.

The price was affortable and so I got one for fun.
The presentation and the theme match the image of Initial.
This presentation method is new to Hong Kong and it is creative.

Glam I.T. up

Recently, I.T. launched a new credit card with Citibank which is the luxury edition of I.T. card: the platinum I.T. card.

To promote this card and to hit the target market, I.T. created an application in facebook called "Glam I.T. up" in which you can join events and earns virtual money to shop in virtual I.T.

This is a very good idea from my opinion.

First, with Virtual money. people can purchase something that they cannot afford in their real life and thus increasing the motivation for them to explore the game more.

Second, with the association of real and virtual life, one pre-register for the plantinum card can earn virtual money for the game. This definitely increase the chance for the people who found the game interesting to apply the credit card.

Third, even if you don't apply the card, it is still an interesting games for public. It serves to promote the clothes and brand in I.T. to its audience.

Finally, using facebook as promtion channel matches its retail identity. It reinforces its trendy image.
